M2 Construction PDF Print E-mail

M2 Is a new construction system with several advantages to both constructor and end user of the building product.  A new factory has been set up on Sal island specifically for the production of all materials necessary for the M2 system.  Just Cape Verde were fortunate enough to be invited to the factory in Palmeria in November (2007) and were very impressed with the professional industrial plant.  This new building system will be used on the later blocks of the Aqua park development and Pedra de Lume.

Excellent Acoustics

The soundproofing of M2 Panels® is one of the advantages offered by the construction system. Tests carried out on panels have given the following results:
M2 Panel® with polystyrene slab 4 cm thick 38dB
M2 Panel® with polystyrene slab 8 cm
These values are evidence of how suitable M2 Panels® are even under the more severe conditions, in compliance with technical regulations in force.

Fire Resistant

The quality of the polystyrene foam used in the panels is F type, self-extinguishing in compliance with DIN 4102 regulations. Fire resistance tests conducted on PE-80 panels have shown results higher than REI 120.

Choice of Finishes

Walls built with M2 Panels® can be completed using a wide array of finishes. It is possible to apply a thick coating right on the raw plaster or, as an alternative, ordinary paint on the smooth plastering. Any type of coating can be applied with no exceptions.

Earthquake Resistant

Laboratory tests conducted on one M2 Panel® two-story prototype, true scale, have shown that the structure can resist, and is not damaged by strains higher than those calculated for a Category One Earthquake, which is the maximum provided for by Italian seismic standards. The results obtained from these tests represent the scientific evidence of what has already been naturally experimented. In fact, buildings constructed using the M2 Panel system have shown their antiseismic qualities in many countries, where they have successfully overcome the most severe tests by nature.

Hurricane Resistant

Buildings constructed with the M2 Panel® system in hurricane high-risk areas have demonstrated their ability to withstand the effects of the most devastating hurricanes through the years, thus empirically confirming the results already obtained by calculation, that show that M2 Panel-built structures are extremely resistant to the complex strains and thrusts caused by the force emitted by hurricane.

Lightweight

M2 Panels present a remarkable easiness of handling, transportation and assembling thanks to their very reduced weight that enables their use in any condition. The lightness of the panels matches, in any case, a very remarkable stiffness, even prior t the completion with structural concrete. This guarantees integrity to the panels and correspondence between the panels and their use. Prior to concrete application, the weight per square meter changes according to the type of panel from 3,5 to 5 kg/m2. Thanks to the lightness of the panel, any worker, even by himself, can easily handle over 3 m2 of wall without difficulty.

Rapid Assembling

Several experiences carried out in all kinds of conditions, in different countries of the world and with any kind of labour have shown that the time required to realize buildings following the M-TWO system is much shorter compared to the conventional systems.

Versatile

The M-TWO panels can be used for realizing any kind of structure. The panels can be employed as leed bearing vertical elements, partitions, curtain walls, floors and staircase flights. In all of these cases it is easy to obtain all the geometrical shapes both plane and curved, just cutting the elements on site. The characteristics of hect insulation, sound-proofing, fire resistance, handling and easiness make the M-TWO panel suitable for all kind of uses.

Resistant

A lot of laboratory test carried out in several countries of the world as well as in Italy have shown the high load resistance of the M-TWO panels. For example, tests carried out on a finished single panel having dimensions equal to cm 112x15 and cm 270 high, have shown that the same panel can sustain loads above 1.700 KN. These values are evidence of the strength capacity of the M-TWO panels that is far greater than of comparable traditional structures.

Energy Saving

The value of the K total hect transmittance of a wall realized by a panel made up of a polystyrene slab of 4 cm (density 15 kg/m3) applied with plaster 3 cm thick on both sides for a total thickness of 10 cm, is equal to 0.78 W 1m2 K.

If the wall is realized using a panel with polystyrene slab of 8 cm (density 15 kg/m3), the calculated value of the K hect transmittance is equal to 0.49 W 1m2 K. Such a hect insulation degree exceeds in a remarkable way the peculiar values of the partitions or curtain walls obtained with the traditional systems; this produces energy saving equal to 40% both while heating and while cooling.
